North vs South- group show

I painted these two pieces for a group show titled “North vs South”. I enjoy participating in group shows with a theme. It is a chance for me to take a holiday from my normal methods of working and explore new methods.
These twins modeled for me over two years ago for a portrait commission. I was so moved by their presence. The portrait sitting quickly moved into ‘me gathering images of these two for my own paintings’. I interpreted the show North vs South as opposites…I chose heaven and earth. Not as good and evil, but as now and future. Now, with all of the struggles we endure, and future, as our hopes for after our time on earth is complete.
(side note: the morning fog that settles into my back yard will sometimes take my breath away, I have always wanted to paint it, but never had a place to put it. The landscape has finally found its place as the backdrop for ‘The Earth Holds the Sorrows’)
‘The Sky Holds the Hopes’ and ‘The Earth Holds the Sorrows’ are included in the show North vs South opening this Friday night at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, SC.
